13 Miraculous Uses for Cucumbers

tháng 8 16, 2012     Beauty, cleaning, cucumber, fixes, good for you, health, healthy, home, miracle, other uses, remedy     No comments

Cucumbers are not just for eating...

  1. Cucumbers contain most of the vitamins you need every day. One cucumber contains Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B3, Vitamin B5, Vitamin B6, Folic Acid, Vitamin C, Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium and  Zinc.
  2. Feeling tired in the afternoon? Put down the caffeinated soda and pick up a  cucumber. Cucumbers are a good source of B Vitamins and Carbohydrates that can provide that  quick pick-me-up that can last for hours.
  3. Tired of your bathroom mirror  fogging up after a shower? Try rubbing a  cucumber slice along the mirror, it will  eliminate the fog and provide a soothing, spa-like fragrance.
  4. Are grubs and slugs ruining your planting beds? Place a few slices in a small pie tin and your garden will be free of pests all season long. The chemicals in the cucumber react with the aluminum to give  off a scent undetectable to humans but drive garden pests crazy and make them flee the area.
  5. Looking for a fast and easy way to remove cellulite before going out or to the pool? Try rubbing a slice or  two of cucumbers along your problem area for a few minutes, the phytochemicals in the cucumber cause the collagen in your skin to tighten,  firming up the outer layer and reducing the visibility of cellulite. Works great on wrinkles too!!!
  6. Want to avoid a hangover or terrible headache? Eat a few cucumber slices before going to bed and wake up refreshed and headache free. Cucumbers contain enough sugar, B Vitamins and electrolytes to replenish essential nutrients the body lost, keeping everything in  equilibrium, avoiding both a hangover and headache!!
  7. Looking to fight off that afternoon or evening snacking binge? Cucumbers have been used for centuries and often used by European trappers, traders and explores for  quick meals to thwart off starvation.
  8. Have an important meeting or job interview and  you realize that you don't have enough time to polish your shoes? Rub a freshly cut cucumber over the shoe, its chemicals will provide a  quick and durable shine that not only looks  great but also repels  water.
  9. Out of WD 40 and need to fix a squeaky hinge? Take a cucumber slice and rub it along the problematic hinge, and voila, the squeak is gone!
  10. Stressed out and don't have time for massage, facial or visit to the spa? Cut up an entire cucumber and place it in a boiling pot of water, the chemicals and nutrients from the cucumber with react with the boiling water and be released in the steam, creating a soothing, relaxing aroma that has been shown the reduce stress in new mothers and college students during final exams.
  11. Just finish a business lunch and realize you don't have gum or mints? Take a slice of cucumber and press it to the roof of your mouth with your tongue for 30 seconds to eliminate bad breath, the phytochemcials will kill the bacteria in your mouth responsible for causing bad breath.
  12. Looking for a 'green' way to clean your faucets, sinks or stainless steel? Take a slice of cucumber and rub it on the surface you want to clean, not only will it remove years of tarnish and bring back the shine, but is won't leave streaks and won't harm you fingers or fingernails while you clean.
  13. Using a pen and made a mistake? Take the outside of the cucumber and slowly use it to erase the pen writing, also works great on crayons and markers that the kids have used to decorate the walls!!

Just Keep Swimming

 tháng 8 05, 2012     No comments

We have our sixth broken bone in six weeks...
This little guy is so cute.

I am counting each one of my fractured vertebrae separately to sound dramatic, but poor Linus just broke his arm last week as he dove off the changing table when the babysitter turned her head. I think he felt inspired by all of our Olympics watching. It was very sad. And the babysitter felt very bad.

But now he remains as happy as he can be, hobbling around on his splinted arm. What I cannot believe, is that he is going to be ONE YEAR OLD in just 2 weeks! That is crazy.

It has been quite an interesting 2 months, but my back is healing well, and the summer is coming to a close. Here are some pictures for all to enjoy!

Eating the one block Calvin would let him play with. Calvin has gotten a little more generous with his sharing over the last month or so.

He began pulling up a few weeks ago! He is very proud of himself.
I love love his blue eyes.
At the Fiesta Days parade. Calvin requested a green cat face painted on him.
Our pumpkin patch! Tyler is afraid it is going to take over our yard. I can't wait for all of our pumpkins in October!

SCAM ALERT!!!!! Check your Receipts.

tháng 7 29, 2012     alert, cost, help, receipt, save money, scam, steal     No comments

IMPORTANT: CHECK YOUR RECEIPTS BEFORE LEAVING ANY CASHIER'S STATION!!!!!

(THIS COULD HAPPEN ANYWHERE. CHECK YOUR RECEIPT.
PASS THIS ON TO YOUR FRIENDS, KIDS, LOVED ONES, UNLOVED ONES.
I GOT THIS EMAIL PASSED ON TO ME.)

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

It happened at Wal-Mart Supercenter Store #1279, 10411 N Freeway 45, Houston , TX 77037 , a month ago. I bought a bunch of stuff, over $150, & I glanced at my receipt as the cashier was handing me the bags. I saw a cash-back of $40. I told her I didn't request a cash back & to delete it. She said I'd have to take the $40 because she couldn't delete it. I told her to call a supervisor.

Supervisor came & said I'd have to take it! I said NO! Taking the $40 would be a cash advance against my Discover & I wasn't paying interest on a cash advance!!!!! If they couldn't delete it then they would have to delete the whole order. So the supervisor had the cashier delete the whole order & re-scan everything!

The second time I looked at the electronic pad before I signed & a cash-back of $20 popped up. At that point I told the cashier & she deleted it. The total came out right. The cashier agreed that the electronic pad must be defective. (yeah, right!) Obviously the cashier knew the electronic pad wasn't defective because she NEVER offered me the $40 at the beginning.

Can you imagine how many people went through before me & at the end of her shift how much money she pocketed? Just to alert everyone.

My coworker went to Milford , DE Wal-Mart last week. She had her items rung up by the cashier. The cashier hurried her along and didn't give her a receipt. She asked the cashier for a receipt and the cashier was annoyed and gave it to her. My coworker didn't look at her receipt until later that night. The receipt showed that she asked for $20 cash back. SHE DID NOT ASK FOR CASH BACK! My coworker called Wal-Mart who investigated but could not see the cashier pocket the money. She then called her niece who works for the bank and her niece told her this.

This is a new scam going on. The cashier will key in that you asked for cash back and then hand it to her friend who is the next person in line. Please, please, please check your receipts right away when using credit or debit cards!

This is NOT limited to Wal-Mart, although they are the largest retailer so they have the most incidents. I am adding to this....My husband and I were in Wal-Mart North Salisbury and paying with a credit card. When my husband went to sign the credit card signer, he just happened to notice there was a $20 cash back added. He told the cashier that he did not ask nor want cash back and she said this machine has been messing up and she canceled it. We really didn't think anything of it until we read this email.

To make matters worse ....THIS SCAM CAN BE DONE ANYWHERE, AT ANY RETAIL OR WHOLESALE LOCATION!!!

    It's my job

     tháng 7 10, 2012     No comments

I love being a stay-at-home mom. I also love being a freelance stage manager. Every year, I work on Stadium of Fire, and it is always a wonderful week of hard, hard work. I thought the show was especially good this year- especially the fireworks. I ran the stage this year and had a blast doing it. The Beach Boys put on an exciting show, and while most of the Beach Boys and their band took off right after their set, Mike Love stayed backstage with us and enjoyed the fireworks. Scotty McCreery and his band also had a great set and were wonderful to work with. I never get a chance to take too many pictures, but here are a few from show day.

Decked out in my SM Gear
Taken during the fireworks while ash and fallout was raining upon me.
Hanging out backstage with the host, Alex Boye

    Birdcage Makeover

     tháng 7 10, 2012     No comments

It's not really a makeover post unless you see the "before" pictures, but I forgot to take them. :(

At the last fleaology sale that I told you all I was very excited about, I found a great bird cage and metal stand. They were separate pieces, but I knew they'd go well together and look great in my living room. I spray painted them both with a hammered gun metal grey finish and affixed the bird cage on top of the stand. The combination was something that could easily have been sold for at least 3x what I paid for it. Yay for being cheap!

Calvin and I each made a bird to go in it.

    Catchup

     tháng 7 10, 2012     No comments

I have so much to update, but it's always a matter of getting my pictures and such in order. I will make a concerted effort this week to update though. Things that are happening:

Stadium of Fire was such a great show to work on this year!
Linus is almost 11 months old. (Crazy!)
I got in an accident and got 5 fractures in my spine...

So, things are a little crazy right now. I will begin playing catchup soon.
