Halloween Super Simple

On mixing prints – polka dots and animal print

tháng 1 26, 2014     Alice’s Articles, Alice's Outfits, fashion, fashion blog, lifestyle blog, personal style, street style     No comments

Gone are the days when I could wear the outfit you see below in January. Right now Bucharest is a winter wonderland and it’s still snowing, so my long boots and thick coats will be used after all.

I’m happy I got to wear this dress before winter was unleashed upon us – you know how much I love my polkadots print!:))) I have rarely seen something covered in circles that I didn’t want immediately. As much as chocolate, this is a sure thing with me.

My sister, on the other hand, has always been into animal print, she’s not proud of it, but it’s true! It’s her kryptonite! She does insist she only likes “classy” animal prints, but we all know her Balkanic genes are the ones to blame and she can’t think straight when it comes to any such prints. I'm not saying I've never been guilty of this particular sin either! :))) I would, but you probably remember this one time, not to mention this other time and even that moment in time!:)))

So there’s not surprise I went for the dress and she chose the blazer and here I am, mixing prints like there’s no tomorrow! Polkadots and animal print do seem like a great combination to me, not to mention, pretty safe – it’s like mixing stripes with florals – you just know it’s going to work from the start.

These photos were taken by Costin under duress – it was pretty cold and I was especially annoyed with the wind that was messing up my hair (not that it needs any help in that department). And yes, I’m not over bows in my hair yet – they've really been distracting everybody from the crazy eyes!:))))

  I’m wearing:
ankle boots / botine western - Asos
polka dots dress / rochie buline - DressLily (here)
  bag/ geanta - random brand
animal print blazer / sacou animal print - DressLily (similar here and here)
  earrings / cercei - Asos
long gloves, rings / manusi lungi, inele - random brand
hair bow /funda par - made it myself

The 5 "Musts" of Crafting ... Guest Post by Mindy of Best Day Ever

tháng 1 24, 2014     crafts, guest post, super easy     No comments

Guys, crafting scares me. And that's no lie.

I hear the word crafternoon and I run as if I am headed to the nearest bomb shelter.

When I am invited to a craft night, I smile and nod as if that sounds like a great idea, while my eyes widen because I know it's a horrible idea.

In fact, I have been known to do this a time or two to crafts I see.

Best.Day.Ever.

Oops?

Except for it's not oops. It was intentional, calculated and contrived!

I.loathe.crafts!

I think crafting scares me because I am a perfectionist. I want it to look "perfect" I want it to be as good as the one I saw at this or that store or the one that Daniela made. ;) I find it absolutely easier to purchase the item from a store or, and this is my favorite, manipulate someone else into doing the craft for you entirely, which I call HSEDIFY {have someone else do it for you, opposed to DIY}!

Buuut, this blog isn't about buying things or HSEDIFY. It's about DIY. So, I have come up with five tips that have helped me find crafting less stressful, and hopefully, one, some or all of them can be helpful for you too!

One // Don't compare! I think we have all heard that comparison is a thief of joy and it's true - even in crafting! If I expect mine to look just as good as Daniela's or the one at the store, I will never be happy with what I have created. Plus, having it slightly different adds to the uniqueness, which makes it even more perfect.

Two // Simple crafts. I find that I am much less stress is I focus on the simple crafts. For me, I may never progress to more complicated ones, but for the rest of y'all ... start with someone you know you can do and then slowly increase the difficulty or more challenging DIYs.

Three // Pace yourself. This could mean different things for different people. For me, pacing myself entails choosing crafts that take seven minutes or less to complete. Any more time than that and I start to feel like I am failing or that my entire life is consumed by one craft. For another person it might mean, if it isn't working out the way you want just yet, that is okay! Take some time away from the craft and come back to it later, maybe the following day or the following week.

Four // Be selective. I think sometimes it is easy to get caught up into crafting all the things. But for those who get overwhelmed like me, choose your crafting carefully. Not just the complexity and difficulty of the craft, but are you going to actually use it? I am much happier and much more motivated to stick with a craft I know I will use, much like Daniela's West Elm inspired mugs!

Five // Just.have.fun. Even if the item turns out horribly, just have fun with it! Some of my favorite blog posts ever are Pinterest fails. No one is perfect, not every craft or recipe turns out perfectly. And sometimes that is what makes the best experience of all!

Best of luck in all your crafting endeavors! If you have an awesome craft that you think fits into the categories well, leave a comment with a link to the post in the comments section and I will venture my way over to your blog to check it out! :)
___

While I do keep my crafting down to a minimum, here are a few things I have crafted over the past little while. Be prepared to be UH-MAZED. ;)

Ugly Christmas Sweater Advent Calendar

Glitter Vial Necklace

Valentine's Day Fingernails

Polka Dot Sticker Nails

And don't even get me started on recipes. ;)

Best. Day. Ever.

Thanks, Mindy! I love number 1 the most: don't compare! I think this is a GREAT lesson for LIFE -- not just crafting. Be-YOU-tiful!

Say hi to Mindy over at Best.Day.Ever!

I recommend checking out her list of "things that must be kicked!"

I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend! I'll be working on orders for my Shop {maternity countdown shirts}. I also am going to be doing a photo shoot for a product review & giveaway that will be posting on Monday. I am SO excited about this one, you guys! Think "really adorable onesies for my baby" -- I might literally be putting a bird on my child. Can't wait!

I would totally love it if you would follow my blog through GFC -- that's Google Friend Connect -- on the sidebar to your left. That way, you can be the first to know about what's happening here at Put A Bird On It. And thank you for reading my blog! Every day, I tell my husband how much I LOVE blogging. I get excited to write a blog post. I read and gush over every single comment. I look at your profiles, find your blogs, and try to be active in the blogging community. It's kind of nerdy, probably, but I seriously LOVE it. Thank YOU for being here. :)

See you next week!

xo

Liebster Award 2014

tháng 1 22, 2014     About Me, just plain cool     No comments

I'd like to thank the academy...

I've been nominated for the Liebster Award! Thanks to Isabella from Isabella's Array for nominating me. You are so sweet! :)

The Liebster Award is given to up and coming bloggers, so I'm happy to be a part of this group. It is also a fun way to get to know new bloggers. I had a blast answering the questions.

 Here are the rules:

* Mention the person who nominated you with a link to their blog*
*Answer the 11 questions provided by the person who nominated you*
*Nominate 11 other bloggers {less than 500 followers}*
*Create a new set of 11 questions for your nominees to answer*

Here are the questions Isabella asked me, followed by my nominees and their questions. Have fun!

What made you decide to take the jump into the blogging world?
I decided to start my blog, because I needed a creative outlet. Going from being a full time receptionist to being a full time stay at home mom was a huge adjustment. I had days where I would lay on the couch, eat chips and watch The Kardashians all day. I needed something to put my time and energy into. My blog is just that! It is so much fun writing posts, sharing crafts and getting to know other bloggers. I'm so glad I started a blog and am far from being ready to stop!

What is your go-to outfit?
Skinnies || Flats || Sweater || Top Knot

What is your favorite place to shop?
Forever 21 || Target || Kohl's

What are your goals and dreams for 2014?
This year, my 'one little word' is SHINE. I read a quote the other the day that said, "Be so good they can't ignore you," and that's how I'm going into 2014. I want to really grow my blog this year and see where it takes me. My goal is to sell enough maternity shirts from my shop to take my family to Disneyland!

Heels or Flats?
Flats! I've never been a heels girl. Ever. I think I've owned one pair of heels my entire life. Flats FTW.

What place do you dream of traveling to?
I have always wanted to go to Greece. The white buildings -- the blue water -- it seems like the ultimate in romance. I also must visit Harry Potter World one day.

Where is your favorite place you have traveled to and why?
A few months before I had Ava, my husband and I went on a 9 day trip to Washington, D.C. and the surrounding areas. That was my most favorite trip I've ever been on. I love being back east. Everything is green and the humidity snuggles me like a blanket. I would love to live there one day. I have to also add that I went to Europe one time (France, Germany, Amsterdam) and saw some of the most amazing architecture and scenery I've ever seen. I would love to take my husband there one day.

What is your favorite movie?
Currently, it is Anchorman 2! If you haven't seen it, you are missing out. "Brick and I are having a baby. We're naming him Tortilla Jackson. I'm 22 months pregnant."

Who do you idolize and why?
I look up to the moms in my family. My own mom, sisters, sisters-in-law, etc. They each have qualities about being a mom that I want to emulate in my own life. I'm grateful to have them to look to and go to for advice.

What is one word that describes you?
Ahhh! I don't know. This one is hard. Ummmm... "INDECISIVE" {I think...I don't know!}

What is the most challenging thing about blogging?
Definitely the hardest part about blogging is how TIME CONSUMING it can be. I've had to restrict the amount of time I spend "phone trolling" as we call it (ignoring others to be on the internet!). I can get caught up in crafting and blogging and following and posting and ignore what is more important. I've had to learn to manage my time better, set goals and always put family first.

I nominate:

Whitney @ Polish & Pipsqueaks
Cady @ Boughtin Baby & Bride
Katelyn @ Learning, Creating, Living
Jorden @ Showered in Sequins
Andrea @ Little Mello Mama
Emily @ Some Girl - A Diary
Stephanie @ Kiddos & Cocoa
Whitney @ Polka-Dotty Place
Teresa @ Crafty Wife
Amanda @ Happily Ever After
Alyssa @ Making Home Happy

Here are your questions:

What is your favorite thing about blogging?
What are 3 things we might like to know about you?
What is your favorite book and why?
What is your favorite food?
What is your favorite blog post you've ever done?
What is your favorite quote and why?
How did you pick your blog's name?
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
What is your fave lazy day style?
What is an average day like for you?
If you could shadow one blogger for a week, who would it be and why?

Can't wait to read your answers. Love you all!

xo
