Happy Friday! I've been thinking ALL DAY today was Saturday, because my husband gets work off for Good Friday, so it feels like a Saturday. It's been throwing me off in a major way. I even started typing the beginning of this post with a "Happy Saturday! Yes - I'm posting on Saturday..." message, but then, thankfully, realized I was talking loco and checked myself before I wrecked myself.
Easter is in two days, people!!!!! Easter has always been one of my most favorite holidays as a kid. We would (sometimes) get a new Easter dress to wear to church. We always had an indoor Easter egg hunt and an outdoor one. The indoor hunt consisted of my parents going downstairs and closing the door at the top of the stairs. They would hide all the candy (with some of the floor for the littles) and us kids would wait excitedly at the top of the stairs for my parents to push little jellybeans under the door - you always wanted to be the first to grab that candy! Those little beans coming under the door is a memory I will cherish forever. :)
I've got a fun Easter DIY tutorial for you that I shared last week on Creative Ramblings. These mini burlap treat bags are a great last minute idea, if you need something for your kids on Sunday or to take to church or a party! Read on to see how easily you can make these this weekend.
Supplies
Burlap Bags
Bunny Bags Stencil {download free printable HERE!}
Vinyl or Freezer Paper
{if using freezer paper, you also need: Sharpie + X-Acto Knife}
Acrylic Paint(s)
Foam Brush, Foam Pouncer, Q-Tips, Paintbrush
White Pom Poms
Hot Glue Gun
Candy!
The Fun Part
1. Cut out your bunny stencil. If using vinyl, create the stencil & cut using your cutting tool. If using freezer paper, print out the Free Printable Bunny Bag Stencil {download HERE}. Place underneath your freezer paper and trace using a sharpie. Cut out inside of stencil with your X-Acto knife.
Tip: I've heard you can print directly onto your freezer paper. I haven't tried it, but if you do, let me know how it goes!
2. Place your stencil on your burlap bag. If using vinyl, adhere with transfer tape. If using freezer paper, iron onto the burlap. I used wax paper and it did not iron on to my burlap. I was able to just hold it down with my fingers and daub the paint over the stencil. It worked great!
3. Paint over the stencil using the acrylic paint & foam brush. Be sure to place a piece of thick paper in the inside of your burlap bag. Otherwise, the paint will seep through. Make as many bunnies or other designs as you want. I made one polka dot bag, too, 'cause I'm kind of obsessed with polka dots! I used a q-tip to make the small green polka dots and - YEP - a q-tip to paint on the large, white polka dots, too.
Tip: the bunny insert you cut out earlier is GREAT for holding the paint color you're using!
4. Let dry! If you are impatient, like me, you can use a blow dryer to speed up the process. Remove the stencil {I removed before drying, but you can wait, too}.
5. Remove paper from inside of burlap bag. Hot glue your white pom pom "bunny tail" onto your burlap bag.
You're done! Congrats! You just made an adorby Easter treat bag.
